The Blue Jackets are looking to get back on track tonight against the Buffalo Sabres as they are losers of three straight. They can’t afford to go on any extended losing streaks at any point in the season.
1)Fore-check early- The Sabres might be a bit rusty as they haven’t played since last Saturday. The Jackets need to put the pressure on early with hard fore-checking and score first. They don’t want to give the Sabres the opportunity to get their skating legs under them.
2) Kris Russell – Russell played his best game of the season on Wednesday night. He began skating with the puck making end to end rushes. The Blue Jackets have been waiting for Russell to begin playing up to his potential. He needs to continue to play well and move the puck up the ice in order for Columbus to be successful.
3) Goal-tending – Mathieu Garonis arguably the best back-up in the NHL this season. His numbers are unbelievable with a 6-1 record, 1.33 GA, .950 save percentage, and 3 shutouts. It is difficult to start once every week and half and play as strong as Garon has played. He needs to continue his strong play tonight against the Sabres.
