Walker’s Milestones a Bonus in Uconn Win

There has been much said about Kemba Walker due to his outstanding level of play this year, because of his play many believe that outside of Alex Oriahki Uconn is perceived as a one or two man show. UMBC came into the Hartford XL Center earlier this evening and found out that’s not the case at all. Jim Calhoun unveiled a new Starting Line Up this evening, it resulted in Uconn actually starting the game well. Walker and Oriahki were joined by 3 members of the freshman class( R.Smith, T. Olander, and J. Lamb), Olander and Smith replaced Giffey and Okwandu. Uconn blew UMBC out 94-61, it was the complete opposite of their last victory as the scoring load was shared throughout the roster. Uconn moves to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 at home this year.
Jim Calhoun had to be proud of his guys this evening, he made it a point to the team that Walker and Oriahki(A.O.) cannot and should not be placed with the heavy burden of scoring. It’s not possible for them to shoulder the load alone, well the younger Huskies must of took it to heart this evening as they ALL contributed to putting points on the board. First, we will start with Kemba and A.O. Kemba recorded his 1st career triple-double tonight(24 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block), that wasn’t the only milestone he reached tonight as he also scored his 1,000th career point. Kemba became the 45th Uconn player to do so, of his 13 rebounds 5 of them were on the offensive end!! A.O. didn’t have a double-double this evening, but he did 11 points and 4 blocks to go along with his 4 rebounds. Now let’s get into the rest of the team’s contributions: Smith-11pts 7 rebs 2 blks Lamb-12pts 6rebs 2blks Beverly-7pts 7ast 3rebs Giffey 11pts Napier-6pts 4ast 3rebs Coombs-McDaniel-10pts If the Huskies are able to keep this type of production up, they will indeed be a team to be reckoned with going into Conference play. Will Uconn be able to count on these young players to become consistent contributors?? Should they keep the new starting line-up, is Kemba Walker going to be able to continue this level of play going forward??
