On the menu this week are some quick options to hold you over as you make your run into the playoffs. Obviously some options are much more efficient than others.
Fattening: Carson Palmer- Look for the Bengals to run the ball more this week against the Saints who are ranked 3rd among all pass defenses. Palmer hasn’t shown that he can rise to occasion lately having 7 TDS to 8 INTS in his last four games.
Try This Instead: Eli Manning- Eli has 9 TDs in his last four games and was finally INT free last week against Jacksonville. Look for that trend to continue this week against a 22nd ranked Washington pass defense.
Fattening: Calvin Johnson- Though Calvin has been performing well all season, he’ll be on his third starting QB of the year when Drew Stanton gets the start for Detroit this week. Though Stanton may try to use Johnson as a safety blanket, look for the Bears defense to key in on that as well.
Try This Instead: Mike Williams- The Bucs are at home this week against a good Atlanta team. However, as good as Atlanta is at stopping the run (ranked 6th), that is how bad they are at stopping the pass (27th). Williams had a good day against the Falcons the last time the two teams met (4 rec for 89 yards and a TD) so look for Josh Freeman to look Williams’ way quite a bit.
Fattening: Chris Cooley- While his reception total and yardage is solid, Cooley has only reached the end zone twice this year so don’t think he’ll get any help from the #1 ranked pass defense in the land this week when the ‘Skins travel to New York to take on the Giants.
Try This Instead: Dustin Keller- The Jets TE has been relatively quiet the last few games but look for him to break about New England who is dead last in pass defense. Sanchez will be throwing the ball more than what skeptics think and Keller should be targeted quite a bit.
