Boise State, had the tough task this week of trying to win at home after a tough loss last weekend against Nevada that ultimately crushed the Broncos hopes of reaching a BCS bowl game. But with one play, almost everyone in Bronco Stadium was able to forget the heartbreaking loss of last weeks game. Being that this was the last home game of the season as well as senior night, all of Bronco nation came out in force to support its players. What impressed me the most was the reaction Bronco fans had when kicker Kyle Brotzman was announced onto the field. There were no boo’s, just a standing ovation as Bronco faithful saluted one of its best players of the past four years.
Kellen Moore yet again showed why he is in contention for the Heisman as he threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns. This game was all sealed up after the first play from scrimmage as linebacker Derrell Acery intercepted a Diondre Borel pass and returned it 31 yards for a Boise State touchdown. From that point on it was all Boise State as they were able to hit cruise control to a 50-14 victory. With the win they were able to clinch a share of the WAC title as well as say farewell to the WAC conference.
After the game, it was announced that Boise State will play Utah in the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl December 22nd. This will be an interesting matchup as it sets up duel between two non-AQ powerhouses. Utah has only lost to Notre Dame and TCU this season and looks to extend its 9-game winning streak in the postseason. Boise State, even though two weeks ago they had not envisioned playing in a non-BCS bowl game, will look to play hard and finish the year off strong.
