On Sunday, the Iowa Hawkeyes accepted an invitation to play the No. 14 Missouri Tigers in the Dec. 28 Insight Bowl. The game kicks off at 9 p.m. CT from ASU’s Sun Devil Stadium; it will be broadcast on ESPN.

In response to the Bowl game, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said [1], “We’re absolutely thrilled, very appreciative of John Junker and his board, everybody involved at the Insight Bowl for their selection of Iowa. We’re just really excited about playing a first class opponent in Missouri in a great venue.”

The Hawkeyes will face a tough competitor in Missouri. The team finished with a 10-2 overall record and as No. 12 in the final BCS standings. During the season, Missouri beat Oklahoma 36-27 but lost to Nebraska, 31-17

Iowa lost their last three games of the season and finished with a 7-5 overall record. The Hawkeyes biggest win of the season came against Michigan State, 37-6.

This is the Hawkeyes first visit to the Insight Bowl. Last season, Iowa defeated Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl and prior to that, the team beat South Carolina in the Outback Bowl. If Iowa wins the Insight Bowl, it will be the first time an Iowa team has won three consecutive bowl games.

Missouri beat West Virginia 34-31 in 1998 in the Insight.com Bowl, played in Tucson, Ariz. Last year, the Tigers played in the Dec. 31 Texas Bowl against Navy, losing 35-13.

Iowa last played Mizzou in 1910, losing 5-0 in Columbia.

Hawkeyes, you better bring your A game. This is going to be a tough one!
