Well I am now confident in saying the Patriots are for real. Their loss against the Browns about 4 weeks ago really set them strait. Last night they looked amazing, and every aspect of the team played just about as well as they could of. The Jets are supposed to be a top 5 team in the NFL and the Pats blew them out 45-3. That is incredible. I could not believe what I was seeing. I expected the Pats defense to give up a few points and still manage a win, but they only allowed 3 points! I am in shock and am more than impressed with how this team played last night. Everyone contributed, as they needed to, and people are now looking at Brady as a solid MVP candidate. The Jets came out with ZERO motivation and it looked like they didn’t even want to be on the field. Was it too cold for them to play? Did they really think they were just going to walk all over the Patriots? What happened? I thought Rex Ryan was supposed to be one of the best head coaches in the league, not to mention one of the best defensive strategists. He could not stop the Patriots pretty much on any drive. I am just thrilled to see the most overrated team in the NFL get completely blown out by their division rivals.
The offense looked good, the defense looked good, the special teams looked good; the team clicked and played perfectly together. Everybody brought their A-game and it showed completely. Every week I talk about how young the Patriots defense is. Most young defenses will make several mistakes throughout the course of the game (which this defense has in most games), but in particular contest they did not. They looked as sharp as any defense in football. Jerod Mayo continues to be a horse on defense tackling everyone that tries to get by him. He leads the league with 144 tackles which is 17 better than 2nd place. Devin McCourty is a rookie cornerback who is tied for 2nd in the league with 6 interceptions. This team is playing with experience that they do not really have and are also playing as in-sync as you possibly can. No one is ever lost in coverage; no one is confused on a play call; and everyone knows their assignment for each play. This is so rare for a defense so inexperienced to be playing so well together.
As for the offense, they are pretty self-explanatory. Brady looked great as did everyone else that touched the ball. Green-Ellis continued to run the ball well against a tough run-defense; Danny Woodhead is perfectly used by the offense and continues to exceed expectations; and Aaron Hernandez ran like a RB after the catch last night.
This team is motivated and is playing to win it all. They are going to beat any team that tries to get in their way. I would say they are the hottest team in football by a long shot. Let’s keep this win-streak riding against another hot team being the Chicago Bears.
Tom Brady: 21-29 for 326 yards and 4 TDs
Wes Welker: 7 catches for 80 yards and a TD
Danny Woodhead: 4 catches for 104 yards
Benjarvus Green-Ellis: 18 Carries for 72 yards and 2 TDs
Branch and Hernandez: 3 receptions and 1 TD each
