Eric Gordon is Clippers Renaissance Man in 2nd half to win vs Sacramento 98-91

The Clippers were smooth sailing in the first half, going into the locker room at halftime with a 50-44 lead led by the great play of guard Ryan Gomes. The squad didn’t seem to miss Chris Kaman and Brian Cook who were both inactive in tonight’s match-up.

The Clippers kept the momentum going with Griffin receiving a lob from Eric Bledsoe, sending it home with a crowd pleasing dunk, leading 68-51 with 5:23 left in the third quarter. At the 2:08 mark, Baron Davis shot a quick three and missed, but redeemed himself with a Lebron like chase down block of Pooh Jeter showing he still has much in the tank.

The third quarter consisted of balanced passing and scoring, with fewer points by Blake Griffin but earning career high assists with seven. The Clippers ended the 3rd quarter scoring a total of 29 points with a 79-63 cushion going into the 4th quarter.

Los Angeles lost focus starting the 4th quarter with three quick turnovers. This resulted in a 9-0 run and an and-one play by 27 year old rookie Pooh Jeter bringing the score to 79-72 with ten minutes remaining in regulation. The game quickly became intense with a tied score of 85, and the temperature of the Staples Center quickly turned cold as the arena was filled with boos.

Then a steal and dunk by Eric Gordon brought the crowd back to life.

Gordon’s all purpose performance led to him scoring the last nine Clipper points, which included a clutch three pointer with 40 seconds remaining. He also had a crucial rebound, steal and forced turnover for a Clipper possession which led to Tyreke Evans fouling him. The game was iced when he hit both free throws with 16 seconds left. Gordon was definitely Mr. Clutch when his squad needed him. He ended the game with 29 points, putting him with names like Kobe Bryant, Amare Stoudemire and Jason Richardson with most consecutive 20+ point game performances.

Eric Gordon and the Clippers will go head-to-head with Bryant and the Lakers when they face their city rivals on Wednesday December 8th with a 7:30 pm tip off.
