How bad can it get for Islanders?

If fans of the New York Islanders think it is bad now….it could get a lot worse before all is said and done.

Sporting an NHL-low 15 points entering the first full week of December, the Islanders continued practice today on Long Island as they prepare to meet the Bruins in Boston this Thursday evening. As of this evening, Boston stands in the Eastern Conference with the eighth best record.

For New York, its 5-15-5 record befits a team that has not won in 17 of its last 18 games.

The Islanders latest debacle was a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia at home Sunday afternoon. Prior to that, the Islanders lost back-to-back games to the rival New York Rangers last Thursday and Friday.

After it loss to Philly last Sunday, the Islanders were even looking skyward for help.

“God has to do something,” defenseman James Wisniewski commented, shaking his head after another loss.

Making matters even worse (depending on how you look at it) was the fact that only 7,773 fans watched the nightmare at Nassau Coliseum. It was the smallest announced attendance at the Coliseum dating back to the 2004-05 lockout.

While the Islanders will likely not be left with the worst-ever NHL record (Washington Capitals 8-67-5 in the 1974-75 season), things could get much worse before they get better.

My best advice for the Islanders and the fans is to keep the faith, along with going to church as often as possible.
