Injury bug bites Oilers yet again
Posted By Scott Pattison On Dec 8 2010 @ 6:48 pm In Edmonton Oilers | No Comments
First it was talented play-maker Ales Hemsky going down with a groin injury and now the Edmonton Oilers are suddenly without their top centre, Shawn Horcoff, for potentially up to eight weeks.
The Oilers’ captain sustained an MCL injury to his right knee, after colliding knee-on-knee with Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry, during the first period of last night’s 3-2 SO loss to the visiting Ducks.
Hemsky could be out of the starting lineup for the next month with a cantankerous groin injury.
In the meantime, the team has recalled highly touted Swedish winger, Linus Omark, and centre Ryan O’Marra, from Oklahoma City. Omark, whose YouTube presence grows with each sick move that he assaults opponents’ “D” with in the AHL, plays both wings and will take over Hemsky’s spot, while O’Marra provides the centre-soft Oilers with some depth in Horcoff’s absence.
The flashy Swede currently leads the OK City Oil Barons in scoring with 13 goals, 13 assists in 26 games this season.
Oilers GM Steve Tambellini is likely having a bit of deja vu on the heels of his team’s recent injuries, having watched his club soar to the top of the NHL’s Mash Unit much of the two previous seasons.
Both players should see action, including Omark’s NHL debut on Friday, when Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning strike E-town.
In the meantime Oiler fans, chins up….sticks down.
