Predators Too Much For Wings

The Red Wings were outplayed by the Nashville Predators for much of the first half of tonight’s game at Joe Louis Arena. The Wings could not recover leading to a 3-2 defeat, and their first three-game losing streak of the season.
The Predators started out quickly sending six shots in the game’s first four minutes at Jimmy Howard. Solid work from Howard kept the game scoreless until Colin Wilson scored with 33 seconds left in the first to give the Predators a 1-0 lead going into the intermission.
Martin Erat scored just 49 seconds into the second period to extend the Predators lead, and dig the hole deeper for the Wings. A four-minute high sticking penalty against Tomas Holmstrom could have finished the Wings off, but a steal by Henrik Zetterberg led to a shorthanded goal by Pavel Datsyuk. It was Datsyuk’s ninth goal of the season. This would be as close as the Wings would get.
With the game still standing at 2-1, J.P. Dumont scored with 5:23 left in the game to give the Predators back their two goal lead, but the Wings were not finished scoring either. Johan Franzen scored his team high 13th goal of the season with 93 seconds left, but that was all the Wings could muster before time expired.
The Wings will host the Montreal Canadiens Friday night in a match-up of original six members. The puck will drop at 7pm at Joe Louis Arena.
