Freshmen Gaining Confidence as Huskies Roll

It looks like the light is starting to go on for Uconn’s freshmen, every game they get more and more involved. The greatest part of this, Kemba Walker isn’t exerting as much energy scoring any more!! Uconn hosted the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights last night, the 6th Ranked Huskies beat the Knights 78-54.

Kemba Walker finished the game with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks! What’s more impressing at least in Coach Calhoun’s eyes, Alex Oriahki(A.O.) didn’t have a great game and he didn’t lead the team in rebounds. ¬†Uconn out-rebounded the Knights 46 to 30 and only got 9 rebounds from A.O.!!Kemba got a lot of help from the supporting cast not named A.O.!! Jeremy Lamb had 12 points and 5 rebounds, he also had a great dunk in transistion that really showed of his athleticism!! Shabazz Napier played a brilliant game tallying 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals! Roscoe Smith didn’t want to be left out of the fun put up 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks! Uconn also got contributions from Donnell Beverly, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, and Neils Giffey. Beverly had 5 assists and 2 blocks, Coombs- McDaniel had 7 points and 3 rebounds, and Giffey had 7 points. Uconn is starting to look more like a balanced team instead of a team with only 2 good players. It’s beautiful to see Walker’s points per game average go down without suffering losses, I understand it’s against weaker opponents but confidence is confidence. Uconn has a good rest before it’s next game, they don’t play until Monday and it’s at home against Coppin State. Which member of this freshman class is the best player, and which one is the most important?? Do you think the freshmen will be ready to contribute December 27th against Pitt, or will it fall all on ¬†Walkers shoulders again? If the freshmen continue their confident play into Conference Play will Uconn finish as one of the better Big East teams??
