Garrett and the Cowboys Try to Ground Division Leading Eagles

In what will the first of 2 late meetings this season, the Cowboys will host the Eagles this Sunday night. The Cowboys have been on a roll at 3-1, minus a monstrous fumble late in the Saints game, the Boys would be 4-0 coming in after the switch at head coach. A few weeks back not many people would look at this as a competitive game where the Eagles have a rejuvenated Michael Vick, who is playing pro bowl caliber football, leading a team that has been playing lights out. However, as things tend to change from week to week in the NFL we see a new Cowboys team and we also see a few cracks in the seemingly invincible Vick.
The Eagles are a dangerous offensive team with Vick, who is an MVP candidate, and has become disciplined under Andy Reid to stay within the pocket and throw the ball primarily and run as a secondary. This is an achievement that coaches had hoped for for Vick when he came into the league from a player standpoint. The only visible issues with Vick is in his short game when the deep pass is taken away and the defensive line has him contained as Chicago did. A lot of this is probably coming from Vick’s need to secure a large contract due to his issues of debt and his need to prove himself again within the league. Big plays make big splashes.
Despite any of that Vick has led the Eagles to 1st in yards this season, and poses a serious offensive threat to the Cowboys deep and in containment where he flourishes. In order to have a change this week, the Cowboys will need to be able to not only contain Vick, and LeSean McCoy, out of the backfield, but to be able to cover DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin deep. Both are areas where Dallas has been good and bad this season.
Dallas will also have to deal with the loss of rookie wide out Dez Bryant, who is out for the remainder of the season with a fractured ankle sustained in Sunday’s win over the Colts, and will also be without a struggling Marion Barber who is dealing with a calf injury. The team is lucky enough to have depth at these positions with Miles Austin and Roy E. Williams, who has played well this season, to go along with Tashard Choice who is also playing well when given time. Jason Garrett says that he will continue to give Choice the opportunities as long as he continues to play well, and this may very well be a coming out party for the 3 string back.
The Cowboys will have to play another solid game throughout in order to have a chance to come out on top of the division leading Eagles, but they have shown that they can win in big situations and this Sunday is another big one.
