Wall stands tall; Omark strikes Lightning in SO

Nikolai Khabibulin slammed the door shut, before Edmonton Oilers AHL scoring sensation Linus Omark locked down another victory for the surging Edmonton Oilers, 4-3 over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning, with a dazzling Shoot-out goal, sending the sold-out Rexall Place crowd into a frenzy.

A remarkable night of hockey down at The Old Drug Store, between a couple of run-and-gun teams with entertainment up the wazoo.  Called up to replace the injured Ales Hemsky (groin), the Swedish YouTube scoring sensation’s legend will undoubtedly continue to grow, after successfully introducing his trade-mark European league “centre ice spin-o-rama SO move” to Lightning netminder Dan Ellis.

Not everyone was impressed by Omark’s hotdog antics, however, as Tampa Bay Head Coach Guy Boucher told media his team won’t forget the play. What the Lightning would be more happy to forget would be their lack of finish against Oilers’ netminder Nikolai Khabibulin, who kicked out 41 shots for the Oilers – 17-1 in the third period alone!

This young team, bolstered by some strong veteran netminder, is beginning to look like a team to be wreckoned with, though their team defence remains a project in process.

Up next? The Vancouver Canucks roll into town Sundsy for a tilt against their western Canadian rivals. Have to say, though, the Oilers will need a few more horse shoes up their a..es if they wish to remain competitve.

In the meantime Oilers’ fans, chins up…sticks down.

Embarrassing really, though his Sv% since coming back from a groin injury several games back has soared to .930. An incredible stretch of games from a goalie who is healthy and anxious to earn his $3.7M annual salary.
