Ford Field Finally Gets To Host A Game on Monday Night

The Detroit Lions have played all their home games since 2002 when Ford Field opened. The last time the Lions played on Monday Night Football was in 2001 against the St. Louis Rams. The NFL and TV networks have not awarded the Lions a Monday Night game due to let’s say their lack of performance for the past 9 years.
Fast forward to today, the Metrodome’s roof has deflated due to 17 inches of snow that has fallen in Minneapolis since Friday night. The Minnesota Vikings were to host the New York Giants today. The game must be played no matter what due to playoff implications. No way was the NFL going to allow the Giants to play an additional home game so playing in New York has been ruled out. The next scenario was to find a dome stadium that FOX-TV was broadcasting this weekend. The Lions host the Green Bay Packers today at Ford Field so a decision was made to play the Vikings game in Detroit on Monday Night.
Another sad state for the Lions as other teams will play the first Monday Night Football game in Ford Field. The problem for the Lions and their 2-10 record — they are no closer playing on Monday night then they were in 2002 when Ford Field first opened. Again, thanks Matt Millen for making the Lions the laughing stock of the NFL.
