Lock It Up

The Kansas City Chiefs have the chance today to be able to all but seal up the AFC West division. The Oakland Raiders helped the Chiefs out last week by showing them exactly how to beat the Chargers in December with their 28-13 victory last week. However it will not be an exactly even fight I guess you can say if your a Chiefs fan.
Matt Cassel has been ruled out today after he had an appendectomy earlier in the week. He was unsure if he would play, but everyone knew their was no way he was going to play. He just had surgery on his abdomen no more than four days ago. Mean while The Chiefs brass and Jamaal Charles inked a five year 32 million dollar deal yesterday.
Now as the checks are being signed we take a look at todays game. Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones are going to get a heavy dose of snaps, but if they want to win they are going to have to be as effective as week 1, if not more so. With No Matt Cassel, that means Brodie Croyle will make his first start for the Chiefs since the 2009 season.
Do not expect Croyle to be getting deep pass play calls, their will be a lot of plays that we saw earlier in the year with the Chiefs. The little dink and dunk passes, high percentage plays to get 3-4 yards and allow the running game to get going and sustain drives. I am not expecting Dwayne Bowe to have a huge game due to the quarterback change, but you better believe Croyle will be looking to him t be his safety blanket.
The Chargers are coming off a bad loss to the Raiders, meaning, they are going to come out firing today. Vincent Jackson and Patrick are both back in the lineup today after suffering injuries, but Phillip Rivers will make sure to get them the ball.
The Chiefs secondary which did such a great job against Denver last week will need to continue to do the same. 75% of that success was due to the defensive line getting pressure on the quarterback and forcing the ball out early- and 50% of that was from Tamba Hali. If the Chiefs want to take a choke hold on the division, they are going to have to frustrate Rivers and keep the ball out of his hands.
Chiefs lock it up. 31-30.
