San Francisco’s Playoff hopes are still alive….mathematically speaking.

The 49ers avenged their week 1 loss against the Seattle Seahawks in convincing fashion. They also showed that they can capitalize on their opponent’s mistakes.
Alex Smith’s audition for his next team went very well. He threw for 3 TD’s and 255 yards and finished with a passer rating off 130.9. His numbers were made mostly in the 1st half, when he threw for 195 yards and 3 TD.
The 49ers defense played their best game of the season as well. They forced 7 turnovers; 4 interceptions (one returned for touchdown), 1 fumble recovery and 2 on downs. A total of 20 offensive points came off these turnovers.
The 49ers secondary did show some weaknesses earlier in the first quarter, allowing a touchdown on a blown coverage. Their tackling was poor at times, something that is surprising from a team coached by Mike Singletary. In one play, Patrick Willis had a sure tackle for a loss but missed it and the back ran for a 1st down.
The 49ers have a short week this week. They travel to San Diego to face the Chargers on Thursday night football to kick off week 15.
