Clippers Battle Back, But Fall to Magic

Different story, same result.
This time, instead of building a double-digit lead, the Clippers were nearly able to overcome one.
Unfortunately, in the end, a loss is a loss.
Dwight Howard led Orlando with 22 points as the Magic were able to stave off a late Clippers charge and win 94-85.
Despite a 12th consecutive double-double from Blake Griffin (27 points, 16 rebounds) and another stellar second half effort from Eric Gordon, Los Angeles was unable to overcome an early 26-point second quarter deficit.
The Clippers, playing their second game in as many days, started slowly, and Orlando was able to take advantage and pounce.
The Clippers trailed 35-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Los Angeles was actually able to quell their turnover problem in this game, as they gave the ball away just eight times after committing 27 turnovers in Saturday’s loss to Memphis.
Unfortunately, when you shoot 38 percent from the field and 17 percent from three-point range (4-for-23), it may not matter if you’re able to protect the ball.
The Magic weren’t much better from beyond-the-arc (6-for-23), but did manage to shoot 48 percent from the floor overall.
Coach Vinny Del Negro changed things up before the game when he removed two rookies from the starting lineup (Al-Farouq Aminu and Eric Bledsoe) and replaced them with veterans Ryan Gomes and Baron Davis.
Brandon Bass, starting his second straight game more the Magic, responded well by scoring 13 points and grabbing a career-high tying 11 rebounds to lead the team.
The loss dropped the Clippers to 5-20 on the season, while Orlando improved to 16-8.
Los Angeles is now 0-5 against Eastern Conference teams on the season, and they’ll now head out on a three-game road swing out East.
They’ll travel to Philadelphia, Detroit and Chicago before returning home December 20 to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at Staples Center.
