Rivers has Weapons

In a much needed game against the first place Chiefs the Chargers showed just how good this team could be. The Chiefs did not have their starting QB, so a lot of things could be said about the outcome of this game. As for me, a fan who was at the game watching every play. It was clear that the Chargers are now better then the Chiefs in every aspect of the game, including special teams. The Chargers did a heck of a job stopping the run, oppose to last week. With Cooper and Garay being healthy it really makes a difference. This game was never even competitive, as all the Chiefs fans in the crowd couldn’t even get into the game. There is no better way to watch a game then live in a full stadium, unless you have 66,000 friends to come over to your house and watch the game with you on your flat screen. Even with Gates and Crayton not playing this week the Chargers showed how good our offense could be when healthy, with most of the weapons on the field. You just can’t stop Mathews, Tolbert, Sproles, Jackson and Floyd. There is to many options Rivers, and no defense can cover them all. On Sunday Rivers and Norv took what the Chiefs gave them. With the running game working and the Chiefs not wanting to give up the big play, it was runs up the middle and short passes getting first down after first down.
Some of the Chargers players really needed to step up this year. Lately we have been seeing some of these players emerge. English is finally getting some playing time and making an impact. He has been putting pressure on the QB and playing very well on special teams. Cason has become a very good cover corner opposite the all pro Jammer. It was also nice to see Cason and his ability on kick returns yesterday. Although he does scare me a bit to make a mistake on punt returns. Unlike last week the Chargers played very strong and tough football in the trenches. The Chiefs were the number one running team coming into the game and the Chargers held them to 48 yards on 17 carries, while the Chargers had 207 yards on 43 carries. This comes down to game plan and who wants it more. Beating your opponent off the ball and hitting them in the face.
Now, just because the Chargers laid a shellacking on the Chiefs and showed everyone who the better team was on Sunday. It does not mean the Chargers get into the playoffs yet. We still need to win the rest of our games and hope that the Chiefs will loose to either the Rams, Titans, or Raiders. I have a very good feeling about this. It is not just because I am a huge homer and think the Chargers are the best team in the league. I actually think that the Chiefs will loose two out of their last three games, and the Charegrs will take advantage of it and get into the playoffs.
Side note- I am so happy that Mathews scored his late touchdown, which allowed me to get my 31 touchdown push-ups in. Since I only do push-ups on touchdowns scored in the second half when the Chargers are winning.
