Ho-Lee @#$%! Cliff Turns Down Bombers

Well, the Yankees missed out in the Cliff Lee Sweepstakes, with the ace taking less money to go back to the City of Brotherly Love. Right now GM Brian Cashman is asking for a solid starter from Santa. On the bright side – at least Lee went to the NL where the only meaningful time the Yankees would face him would be in the World Series.

Published reports have put Lee’s deal at 5-6 years. That puts him in a rotation with Oswalt, Hamels and Halladay and pretty much means that unless the Phillies win it all, they’re a failure. Lee is 32. Not ancient for a pitcher, so he does have a lot of good years left in him.

Will the Yankees rue this failed acquisition? Maybe a little. But keep in mind that Lee was bested in the Series by a rotation that *proved* it was the best in baseball. I don’t think the Bombers should give up on the 2011 just yet…
