YPSILANTI, Mich. —- Well Uncle Mel has noticed the calendar and also he has took a look at the white-fluffy stuff that is littering the ground outside of the media castle and well nieces and nephews Uncle Mel better start at getting that Santa Clause letter written and in the mail.

At first glance, the list does not to be crammed with too many gifts – not a impossible list to fill for the jolly man in the sleigh.

Leaving a gift under the Christmas tree in the football department should be no trouble at all because we all know that the Eastern Michigan University football team does not have any kind of defense – even the size of a man like Kris Kringle would be able to slip by the Eagles.

Eagle’s football coach Ron English might want to leave a letter of intent for Saint Nick along with the milk and cookies – after all if Santa Clause can get by the defense then like the rest of the Mid-American Conference he would be leading the world offensively.

Creeping down the hallway of the Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department offices under the glow of the vapor lights inside the Basketball Offices Eagles basketball coach Charles Ramsey is expecting his gift from Santa – another basketball player that possess a shot and somebody that knows how to guard a man.

The Eagle offense is just scoring an average after nine games of just 61 points while the defense stands around and watch the opponent scores 70 points.

The Eastern Michigan offense is scoring at 36 percent from the field that is including a poor 30 percent from beyond the arch and from the free throw line the Eagles are no threat either just making an embarrassing 63 percent from the charity line.

Ramsey sixth season is now nine games old and the record of 1-8 is not where he believed his team should be and he is expecting the Eagles to play better and for somebody to provide help for Brandon Bowdry who must be getting tired after carrying this team upon his shoulder.

Just across the hall, inside of the offices of the Eastern Michigan women’s basketball staff gather at the desk of AnnMarie Gilbert with their heads down in prayer because they are thanking their lucky star that they still have a job.

Gilbert and assistant coaches, LaTonya Tate, Yvette Harris and Darin Thrun were under investigation by the NCAA and by the Athletic Department of misleading the investigators and instructing players not to tell the complete truth to investigators.

Embarrassing results for the staff – there were suspension and reeducation for Gilbert and her staff but Athletic Director Derrick Gragg keeps a watchful eye on the women’s basketball program.

After 11 games the Eastern Michigan University women’s Basketball season is at 6-5 leading the way for the Eagles is the backcourt duo Tavelyn James and Cassie Schrock.

James lead the offense with 16 points and getting to the rebounds is Schrock , she is averaging six boards per game and when Schrock is not crashing the boards she is dishing out the ball for five and half assist per game.

Tucked inside a corner office the baseball offices and sitting behind his desk and looking at reports and making up his wish list baseball coach sitting Jay Alexander.

The baseball program is Eastern Michigan University is preparing for the upcoming season and it gives Alexander time to reflect about last season.

Last season the Eagles finished the Mid-American Conference baseball season with a record of 13-14 which resulted in a seeding into MAC Baseball Tournament in Chillicothe, Ohio.

The Eagles played well enough to play into the quarter finals of the tournament and losing to the MAC champion Kent State University.

Alexander is hoping to find a good left handed pitcher into the starting rotation and also a power hitter and also a solid catcher to guide the pitching staff.

Well the eggnog is getting a good chill and the fire place will need another round of wood to keep the warmth of the fire from becoming glowing embers.

From the desk of Uncle Mel to the good folks inside the Athletic Department Complex and to the nieces and nephew that follow Eastern Michigan University please have a safe and very merry holiday season.
