Week 15 Preview: New Orleans vs. Ravens

Posted By Frisco Fahs On Dec 16 2010 @ 8:23 pm In Baltimore Ravens | No Comments

Both teams are one game behind their division leader. Both want a first round bye and home field advantage for the first game in the playoffs at least. However, only one team can win out of the Ravens and Saints.

Offense: Edge Saints

This is going to be a relatively similar game to what the Ravens had last week with the Texans. The Saints have one of the best offenses in the league with Drew Brees as quarterback. The Saints don’t have a stellar receiving core or an outstanding running game but they always find a way to get the job done. Every week it’s someone else that steps up big for Brees. Last week it was Lance Moore with five receptions for 70 yards with a touchdown. The Ravens need to get back to the running game has December rolls through.

Defense: Edge Ravens

The Saints are ranked sixth in the league in total defense but they depend on turnovers and sacks. The Ravens are the exact opposite. They’re not great in creating turnovers. However, the Ravens tackle and cover better then any team in the league and that’s what gets you off the field on third downs. Statistics don’t always tell the story. Sometimes the eye ball test says enough. When you watch the Ravens and Saints both play defense, you know what defense is better.

Special teams: Edge Ravens

The Ravens’ special teams are paying huge dividends of late. Just last game, they had one kickoff return for a touchdown and two punts that landed within the ten yard line. The Ravens lead the league in punts landing within the 20 yard line, 34.

Prediction:  Saints 27, Ravens 23

The Saints have been on a roll lately. The Ravens have been in a mini slump losing to the Steelers and almost letting the Texans make an extraordinary comeback to win the game.  The Ravens are tough at home with a 5-1 record, although the Saints are one of the best road teams in the league with a 5-1 record. If the Ravens get careless with the football, the Saints will take advantage and score on defense. This will be a tight game with playoff emotion. Both teams desperately need a win but only one will get it.
