McNabb Benched as Redskins Visit Cowboys

It was announced that Mike Shanahan plans to bench Donovan McNabb for the game against the Cowboys this Sunday in favor of back up Rex Grossman. Shanahan is reportedly wanting to see what he has in his back ups and is showing that there is a very god chance that the team will exercise their clause in McNabbs contract extension that will allow them to cut him after this season without a cap penalty.
It’s probably the biggest news coming into a game late in the season, as they tend to be late in the season, that just isn’t relevant to the post season for either team. It’s a game that will be more for pride and fantasy football players than anything else. Why Shanahan would choose this game is a bit strange, as McNabb has always had a good track record against the Cowboys. What’s more is him going to Rex Grossman, who didn’t look all that sharp earlier this year when Shanahan pulled McNabb.
Another Cowboys wide out may miss the game, with Roy Williams tweaking his groin during Wednesday’s practice. If he is out them Sam Hurd will get the start opposite of Miles Austin. The team may get Marion Barber back this week though, and thus the never ending running back rotation may begin again as Garrett alluded to when asked about Barber. Hopefully it will only result in a few carries for Barber who seems like the tread on his tires are going bald. Really Garrett? Another rotation isn’t going to help the team much.
Despite all the injuries the Cowboys should continue to play well under Garrett this week and if nothing else, Cowboys fans will definitely be looking for payback for their loss in week 1 against the Skins. Dallas will be looking to stop Ryan Torain, who had a monster game against the Bucs last week rushing for 172 yards, and Santana Moss who has always given the Cowboys secondary problems. Garrett should look to bring the blitz against Grossman, who struggled against pressure when he was starting, and force him to turn the ball over.
It’s a game for only the most die hard fans of either side for pride in what is a dying season for both teams.
