Colts Control their Destiny with Win over Jaguars, 34-24

The Colts hosted the Jacksonville Jaguars with their backs against the wall. A Colts win would keep them alive to clinch the AFC South. The Jaguars had much in steak as well, a win would put them on top and they would clinch the AFC South with a victory over the Colts. It was clear that both squads came to play on Sunday, leaving no stone unturned.

The return of wide receiver Austin Collie gave the Colts an additional weapon as well as uplifted the crowd. He suffered two concussions within a month and a half, and returned determined to make a difference. Collie caught three of the first five passes Peyton threw and grabbed the first two touchdowns of the game.

The Jaguars kicked a field goal with 14 minutes in the first half and after a controversial 78 yard punt return for a touchdown, the Jaguars trailed the Colts 10-14.

In the last minute of second quarter, the stadium fell silent after Austin Collie was hit and laid motionless on the field. After a few minutes, he was able to stand up on his own will.

Indianapolis’ defense continued to dominate in the second half, stunting the Jaguars run game holding them to less than 100 yards. While the Jags couldn’t get it done on the ground, Jaguars quarterback David Gerrard connected with wide receiver Mike Simms-Walker twice in the second half but wasn’t enough to win it all.

The Colts run game got it done with Donald Brown rushing for a career-high 129 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Indianapolis also welcomed back Dominic Rhodes who was returned back to the squad this week to add to the running threat.

Manning finished the game 29 of 39 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns, both to Austin Collie.

With Sunday’s win, the Colts are in the driver’s seat regarding clinching the AFC South play-off berth. They must win the next two games as they face the Oakland Raiders on December 26 and Tennessee Titans on January 2nd.
