Gameday: Sharks vs Oilers

Posted By Alex Wasserstrom On Dec 21 2010 @ 12:21 pm In San Jose Sharks | No Comments

With both the San Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers playing to 6-3-1 records in their last ten games, youthful exuberance will be the theme to tonight’s match-up. Rookie standouts Taylor Hall, Logan Couture, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi, and Linus Omark will surely dazzle the crowd in their continued bids for the Calder.

In this being their third meeting of the season, the Sharks have taken both games, which have been in Edmonton, and are coming off a three game road trip where a 44-second meltdown prevented San Jose from going 3-0. Instead they ended up going 2-1 with wins against division-leading Dallas and St. Louis.

Playing well for the Sharks, Devin Setoguchi has found the back of the net 3 times in the three games since coming back from his injury, Couture has 3 goals in his last two games, and Ryan Clowe has 10 points in his last 8 games.

For the Oil, Eberle has 4 goals in his last three games, Hall is coming off a 3-assist night against Columbus, and Omark is coming off a 3-point night as well where he notched his first NHL goal – and a beauty it was.

The Sharks really need to find a way to get Patrick Marleau going, he’s goal-less in his last 9 games and is in the league cellar when it comes to +/- with a minus-15 rating. In fact, the top line of Joe Thornton, Dany Heatley, and Marleau have not been producing like they were back in October. With the improved play of this team as of late, they could be deadly if they can find a way to fire on all cylinders.

Puck-drop is tonight at 7:30 pm PST.

Editor’s note: www.leftwinglock.com has confirmed that Khabibulin and Niittymaki will start tonight.
