It’s just a matter of time until the following happens with the Calgary Flames…
The Edmonton Oilers pass the Flames dropping Calgary into 15th in the West.
The locker room becomes split, with players wondering why they are sitting and feel they shouldn’t be.
The fans finally give up all hope that the current incarnate of the Flames can get it together.
Brent Sutter takes one for his brother and gets fired as the head coach.
One more insane move to bring in a veteran presence to ‘help pull the team out of this slide’.
After dropping back to back games against the Minnesota Wild the Flames have pretty much played themselves out of any real hope of a playoff run. Of course the last person who will acknowledge this is Darryl Sutter. Sutter will point to the fact that his team has outplayed many other teams and have been beaten by a hot goaltender.
this of course is true to a point. But how many goaltenders do the Calgary Flames have to turn into MVP candidates before it gets through ownership and managements head that there is a real problem and a change in direction is needed? Flames fans are frustrated that not a word has been heard from the ownership group about the state of the team.
Which leads me to wonder where exactly are the Flames owners? The only possible explanations are as follows… A) Abducted by aliens. B) Currently strapped to Dexter’s tables and being forced to relive some of the brilliant moves this team has made. C) They just don’t give a damn as long as they are selling tickets.
I personally think that it’s aliens, and that if anyone should be strapped to the table it is Darryl Sutter, with the Flames ownership group showing him pictures of the god awful players he has brought in. So my question is why on earth is there a hold up?
I’m actually scared that they are trying to find a way to make Darryl Sutter the president of the team and give Jay Feaster the GM position, but I don’t believe for a second it would work. The shadow of Darryl can not be hovering over whomever the new GM of the Flames will be.
Tonight the Flames are in Columbus and will try and improve on their stellar 5-13 road record. Yes 3 of the losses came in OT or the shootout but they are still losses. Look at this teams overall win/loss record of 14-20 and you suddenly realize just how bad the Flames have been. Hopefully the game will be entertaining tonight as it usually is with Columbus! It can’t be worse than Saturday nights game where for the first time ever I fell asleep midway through the third period and had to rewatch the third on PVR.
Have a good one!
