The Ravens beat the Saints 30-24. With the Steelers losing to the Jets, the Ravens are now tied with the Steelers for the AFC North. Both teams are 10-4. The Steelers hold the tie breaker and would win the division if the season were to end today.
The Ravens returned to playoff form by running the football 39 times in this game. Ray Rice had his best game of the season with 31 rushes for 153 yards and a touchdown. Also, they’re utilizing the short passing game more often with Rice. He had five receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown.
The Ravens defense gave up 24 points in this game. That’s a little bit more then they want to give up on average, although, the Saints team is one dimensional with the passing attack. When you let the Saints run the ball well, that makes their passing game that much better. The Ravens knew that and only held the Saints to 27 rushing yards with 14 total carries as a team.
The Ravens essentially put the New Orleans Saints in the wild card pool. The Atlanta Falcons are 12-2 and now hold a two game lead over the Saints.
There are two more games left in the season. The Ravens have to play two divisional opponents. Next week, they travel to Cleveland to pay the 5-9 Browns. Then they finish of the season hosting the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers have an easier schedule playing the 2-12 Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns for their two last games.
