Colts vs Raiders Preview

Injuries have been the consistent hindrance on the Colts squad for most of the season and now the Colts officially have lost one of their wide receiver’s Austin Collie after placing him on season ending injury reserve. Collie suffered his third concussion of the season against Jacksonville due to a hit that left him motionless on the field for minutes. He had missed four of the past five games with a concussion. His contribution in last Sunday’s game was beneficial; Collie finished the game catching both Peyton Manning’s touchdown throws.
This Sunday is another must win for Indianapolis. A victory against Oakland will bring them one game closer to clinching their 7th NFC South title.
Keys to Victory
The Colts can’t cruise through the match-up; the Raiders defense has certainly been solid for many years. Now if Oakland can only decide on their quarterback….
Indianapolis leads the NFL in passing yards averaging almost 300 yards per game, while Oakland ranks fifth in pass defense, holding their opponents under 200 yards per game. With Collie out, veteran wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Reggie Wayne must play like the threats they are against their opponents. Wayne is ranked third in the NFL with 1,247 yards receiving. Rookie Blair White must come to play against the Raiders as well. He has been such a beautiful surprise this season, making a name for himself with 30 receptions for 284 yards and four touchdowns.
If contained in the air, Manning must create balance by leaning on his up and coming running back Donald Brown who had a career high 129 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries against the Jaguars last week.
From a defensive standpoint, the Colts must repeat their impressive stop of the running game, in which they held Maurice Jones-Drew under 100 rushing yards. The Raiders also have a beast of a running back in Darren McFadden who has rushed for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Oakland has also had an excellent home record, winning five of their seven games.
Can Indianapolis get one game closer to a play-off berth?
They must go through Oakland on Sunday at 4:05 pm (EST).
