Losing an outdoor game to the Chicago Bears shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody, but Monday night’s loss was actually a home game for the Vikings.  The contest started out promising with a surprise start(if there is such a thing) by Brett Favre.  All seemed right with the world as the conditions were Green Bay-esque and the Vikings drove down the field on their opening drive for a touchdown.  Opening drive scores have been rare for this team, which is really another symptom of their multitude of problems.  After that opening drive, there weren’t many highlights for Minnesota.  Brett Favre was knocked from the game in the second quarter with a concussion.  With Tarvaris Jackson on injured reserve, the game was left in the hands of rookie quarterback Joe Webb.  Adrian Peterson was inactive, so he couldn’t really take any of the pressure off Webb, and while Toby Gerhardt played pretty well, the Vikings were no match for the Bears as they were pummeled 40-14, surrendering their NFC North crown to Chicago.

Minnesota has a ton of questions as the offseason approaches.  Who will be the coach?  Leslie Frazier still has two more opportunities to impress owner Zygi Wilf.  The QB situation has been well chronicled, and after seeing Webb play on Monday, he is nowhere close to being ready.  The stadium issue remains up in the air, but in one new piece of news, Wilf spoke up and said he prefers an outdoor venue for the Vikings.  Probably the most pressing concern though is the offensive line.  That group has struggled all year and has some guys like Hutchinson and McKinnie who are aging.  It won’t matter if the QB is Favre, TJack, or Tommy Kramer, if they are getting hammered, Minnesota will not be successful.  Period.
