Pacquiao v Mosley breeds disenchantment

Rather than thoughtlessly spend his cash on hoards of counterfeit Benjamin Franklins or lavishly bet on sports matches, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is leaking real Benjamin Franklins to a team of lawyers who will strategically plan out a Chewbacca defense in order to keep him a free man. Whilst this was happening, Top rank CEO Bob Arum saw fit to give a deteriorating Shane Mosley a fight with eight division champion Manny Pacquiao to the dismay of most boxing aficionados. After a lopsided defeat to Mayweather followed by a stagnant draw to Sergio Mora, it is clear Arum didn’t select Mosley on merit.
Given their first two fights ended up in a draw and a controversial split decision to Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Márquez would have been the logical opponent for Pacquiao in order to resolve a thrilling trilogy of fights. However Arum believes Márquez can’t handle a fight at welterweight given his only fight at welterweight was a unanimous decision loss to Mayweather. Arum issued an a challenge to Márquez stating if he could beat undefeated WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto then a third fight with Pacquiao would be warranted.
No explanation is needed to point out the irony of Arum ruling out Márquez on merit but giving Mosley the fight. Márquez’s money demands made the decision a lot easier for Arum to choose Mosley. It didn’t help Márquez’s case when he decided to hype himself up by claiming to have defeated Pacquiao twice. It would have been wiser if he did the trash talking when the fight was secured given Arum does have some kind of point seeing as Márquez hasn’t proved himself at welterweight. So if we are to go by merit, then Berto should have received the fight as he is the WBC welterweight champion. Though he would have generated less pay per view buys than Mosley and Márquez and making less money is a obstacle if you live in Arum’s world. If Márquez is really keen on securing a fight with Pacquiao, he should make Arum eat his own words by defeating Berto.
On the other side of the world, David Hayes has offered Wladimir Klitschko a 50-50 split which would cost Hayes a reported £2 million pay cut just to secure the career defining fight. Unlike Mayweather who would turn on the mute button when the topic of Pacquiao arose, Hayes has consistently discussed the possibility of fighting the Klitschko brothers only to never reinforce his words with actions. It’s a pleasant change from Hayes who has shifted the responsibility of securing this meaningful heavyweight fight onto the Klitschko camp. The boxing world needs this fight to happen.
Oh and Happy Holidays everyone .
