Love ‘Em or Leave ‘Em Alone Week 10

I hope the Christmas weekend was kind to you all. It was an abbreviated week in the league as the NBA tried to gear all focus towards their Christmas day match ups. Teams got some rest and players and should be rejuvenated for week 10 of the fantasy season.
Gilbert Arenas: The situation here is too dicey and if you own him you almost feel obligated to play him. He and Jameer Nelson have not figured out a way to both be effective. Hibachi has always been streaky and he could turn it around at any point but I don’t get a good vibe right now. Leave ‘Em alone.
Nicolas Batum: I have yet to take a really close look at his game and maybe once I do I will know what it is that Portland sees in him that makes him untouchable in trades. In any event as long as Brandon Roy misses time Batum should hold value. He will not be consistent but will get consistent minutes which is usually half the battle for most NBA players. Love ‘Em for the week and watch the news on Roy as Batum’s value is directly tied.
Vince Carter: He was supposed to make his return on Sunday and now Coach Alvin Gentry says Carter is 5-7 days away. Not worth the risk and he probably ruined some teams last week with the unexpected news that he had knee problems. Leave ‘Em alone.
Stephen Curry: Curry returned on Christmas and should be fine going forward despite his 2-15 shooting in his return. Shooting is not the weak part of his game by any stretch and he will improve in the coming games. Love ‘Em with tempered expectations as he gets his legs back this week.
Keyon Dooling: Dooling has been underwhelming since the news last week that Jennings would miss 4-6 weeks. He and Earl Boykins have been splitting time with Boykins acting as the scorer and Dooling as a facilitator. He will be adequate and if you need big assist totals he is not your man, but if you need a 3rd or 4th guard you could do a lot worse. Love ‘Em.
Jared Dudley: Vince Carter’s knee issues made Dudley one of the hottest pickups of the week. As mentioned earlier Carter should be out another 5-7 days and Dudley should continue to benefit. He did not play well on Sunday against the Clippers (6pts, 3rebs, 3ast) only taking 5 shots. Gentry likes his versatility to guard multiple positions and again the minutes will be there as long as Carter is out. Love ‘Em for the week.
Taj Gibson: The concussion Gibson suffered last week has knocked him out of the chance to have fantasy value. He is reportedly behind Kurt Thomas on the depth chart and while Gibson will still get minutes he is not the must add player he would have been with starters minutes. He might still put up some nice lines and could eventually replace Thomas, but the Bulls are playing well and this looks like a move that might stick for a while. Leave ‘Em alone.
DeAndre Jordan: Jordan continues to provide modest value in the absence of Chris Kaman. If you are in need of blocks and rebounds he is a great pickup but you must know he is a horrid free throw shooter (44% and that is career best currently). The Clippers are said to be shopping the banged up Kaman which would be nothing but good news for Jordan if Kaman is moved. Love ‘Em but beware of the free throw shooting.
Tyrus Thomas: With Larry Brown out the Bobcats are now under the Paul Silas regime. Silas has already stated that he wants to push the ball which is music to a fantasy owner’s ears. Silas might finally be ready to unleash the talent that is Tyrus Thomas. He is the perfect definition of add and stash. Love ‘Em.
Marcus Thornton: Somehow he has clawed his way out of the Monty Williams doghouse. Offense has never been his issue and Coach Williams has requested more defensive effort for him to get consistent playing time. Its feast or famine as he has scored 19, 19, 6, 3, 18, and 6 over the last six games. No thanks, we can do better. Leave ‘Em alone.
That’s all for now. Should have more information next week with a more balanced and regular schedule in the league this week. Everybody have a Happy New Year.
