Iowa Hawkeye RB Adam Robinson Arrested

While Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz never said why top running back Adam Robinson was suspended for the Insight Bowl, he insinuated it could have been academic problems.

Now, you have to wonder if there was more to the story or Robinson had dodged a bullet.

Late Monday evening, Robinson was arrested by the Iowa State Patrol for the citation of marijuana in Des Moines, Iowa. According to a  news release on HawkeyeNation.com [1], Robinson, 21, was a passenger in a car driven by Ermin Zornic, 20. A state trooper pulled the vehicle over because it didn’t have a license place. As he approached the car, the trooper smelled marijuana coming from it and conducted a probable cause search of the car.

Yep, marijuana was found inside the car.

Robinson was cited for possession of marijuana and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 5.

The driver wasn’t as lucky. Zornic was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and OWI charges are pending toxicology tests. He went to the Polk County Jail.

After answering questions about Robinson at a Dec. 14 news conference [2], Ferentz said , “Adam [Robinson], as you know, did not start the Ohio State game. And as I said after that game, it was academically related.”  He anticipated Robinson would return to the team in January and there would not be any further arrests.

I guess he spoke too soon. Stay tuned.
