On the heels of an injury to D-man Tom Gilbert, the Edmonton Oilers have called up one of its top defensive prospects, Jeff Petry.
Petry will likely see action Tuesday night, when the Oilers host the Buffalo Sabres down at The Drug Store. Petry, honing his skills with the team’s Oklahoma City Barons AHL franchise, has scored 21 points so far this season, this his rookie campaign in the “A”.
Edmonton is expecting a solid boost to its offence with the return of much-injured winger, Ales Hemsky. Rookie call-ups Linus Omark or Ryan O’Marra, the latter of which scored his first NHL goal in the team’s brutal last-minute 3-2 loss in Vancouver Sunday night, would likely be the odd man out, should Hemmer return.
Edmonton, which opens a five-game homestand against Buffalo Tuesday evening, currently finds itself mired in a three-game losing streak, after losses to San Jose, L.A. and Vancouver, though the second loss in L.A. earned Edmonton a single having lost in OT.
Without question, this young club has yet to learn that physical play leads to Ws. When they do….grab a seat folks…it’s going to be pretty.
In the meantime Oiler fans, chins up…sticks down.
