Warriors Win 3rd Straight

For the first time this season, the Golden State Warriors have a 3-game winning streak. The Warriors beat the Philadelphia 76ers at Oracle Arena, 110-95. Golden State jumped out to an early 16-4 lead and looked like they would cruise to an easy win, something they haven’t done since blowing out the Clippers in L.A. in the 2nd game of the season. That was back in October, and since then, nothing has come easy to this team.
Tonight was no different. The Sixers awoke from their slumber and actually came back to take a 5-point lead by the end of the first quarter. The Warriors regrouped, starting by playing some defense and held Philly to 19 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 55-49 advantage at the break.
This was possibly the Warriors best team effort of the season and certainly of this month. Dorell Wright led all scorers with 28 points. David Lee had 21 points and 16 rebounds while Monta Ellis recorded a double-double as well, with 22 points and 12 assists.
The best news was that Stephen Curry found his stroke. In his 2nd game back from his ankle injury. Steph connected on four of his five 3-point attempts to finish with 17 points. One game after shooting a miserable 2-15 from the floor in Christmas Day’s win over Portland. The rust was apparent on Saturday, and still was evident in the first half tonight, but in the 2nd half, Curry came alive.
The Warriors only led 76-71 heading into the final quarter when Monta Ellis went to the bench for the first time. That’s when this game was decided. With their best player getting a breather, Golden State outscored Philadelphia by five points to take a 10-point lead with 7:29 left in the game. The Sixers never got closer than nine points thanks in part to some great outside shooting from the host team. G’State made 15-23 from beyond the arc for the game, led by Wright who was 5-7 from distance.
While nobody can be pleased with their current record of 12-18, the Warriors are almost a full month ahead of last year’s pace. Last year, they didn’t record their 12th win until January 18th. In fact, the Warriors went the entire 2009-10 season without winning three straight. To make it four in a row, they’ll have to win in Atlanta on Wednesday. At the very least, the plane ride should be a good one.
