The New York Jets, despite their best efforts to sabotage themselves, are headed back to the playoffs.
Chicago Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox scored twice on four catches and running back Matt Forte rushed for 113 yards to pace the home team to a wild 38-34 victory.
The Jets fell to 10-5 but were able to sneak into the playoffs courtesy of Jacksonville’s surprising loss to Washington. This is the second year in the row during coach Rex Ryan’s tenure that the team has made it to the tournament.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez completed 24 of 37 passes despite struggling with an injured throwing shoulder. However, he also threw a game-sealing interception.
Tight end Dustin Keller led the way for Jets receivers with 79 yards. Running back Shonn Greene paced the team with 70 rushing yards on the ground.
The Jets defense simply was unable to play up to their usual standards as Knox burned Antonio Cromartie twice. Chicago’s Devin Hester also took advantage of their off-day, gaining valuable return yardage for his team and beating the Jets Drew Coleman on a third quarter touchdown pass.
Gang Green finishes up the season against the Buffalo Bills in a meaningless contest for both teams in regards to the standings. However, they may wish to use the opportunity to fine-tune their game and rid themselves of the errors that have been plaguing them recently.
After all…they won’t be facing Buffalo in the first round of the playoffs.
