Last week, three Chicago Bears were leading the way in their positions for the Pro Bowl roster. Now after all the votes had been counted, today four Bears have been chosen for the 2010 Pro Bowl roster.
Congratulations to defensive end Julius Peppers, linebackers Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher and kick returner Devin Hester.
Really, no surprises here other than last week Briggs wasn’t part of the conversation. All of the players are veterans of the Pro Bowl but for Peppers, it’s his first one representing the Bears.
Bears defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said of Urlacher’s selection, “We all understand that he’s a special guy and we know he’s a playmaker. But he’s brought something special to the defense in terms of his leadership and intelligence. He’s our leader. He’s the cornerstone of what we do.”
Urlacher leads the team with 141 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, 13 pass breakups, 3 ½ sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
And number six must be the Bears’ lucky number. With this seventh Pro Bowl selection, Urlachers sits as No. 6 on the Bears’ all-time list for the number of Pro Bowls for a player; Briggs is only the sixth player in Bears history to be selected to six straight Pro Bowls.
The stars are aligning. Now go out and catch that first seed for the playoffs!
