Well for most of you out there fantasy championships have been decided, however, for some there is still one more week to go before a winner is crowned. Week 17 can be one of the toughest weeks to plan for in fantasy, especially if your team consists of good players on team that have already secured a playoff berth making their availability for the last game in question. You can be sure that the coaches will be no help in your decision either. They will want to protect their star players for the playoffs, but keep it under wraps to keep the other teams honest, so fan attendance stays up, and so they still appear competitive in the last game of the regular season. So can you really blame the coaches and teams for benching their stars? In fantasy you can.
Teams like New England, Chicago, and Kansas City become question marks in fantasy. Players like Jamaal Charles, Tom Brady and Dwayne Bowe are tough to keep in your line ups.
Also some injuries that players would usually play through, become enough to keep them out in a game that is not important enough to play them, whether they are out of contention or they are being saved for the playoffs.
Darren McFadden – McFadden hurt his foot late the game against the Colts and is likely to be held out against the Chiefs in the last game of the season. Making Michael Bush the starter. Bush would be someone to add going against the Chiefs who may be playing at half speed this weekend.
Jerome Simpson – After TO and Ochocinco went out, Jermome Simpson stepped up for the Bengals last week and could be in the same position to start this week against the Ravens. He’s decent play if your thin at the position and he put up 124 yards and 2 touches.
Ryan Mathews – Mathews has been disappointing to own all year long, but for those of you who held on for this long he could pay dividends. Mike Tolbert has been declared inactive for the next game and Mathews will be looked to to carry the workload and against one of the worst run defenses in the league, the Denver Broncos.
Mario Manningham – Manningham may be in for a big day against Washington with Hakeem Nicks probably out for the game with a toe injury.
Here are some other good players that may still be floating on the wires and would make a good play.
Owen Daniels – Daniels is healthy and Matt Schaubs go to guy in the absence of Andre Johnson. Against the Jags, who have struggled as of late against tight ends look for a another good start.
Tim Tebow – The Broncos have nothing to lose at this point in the season, and so they have unleashed Tim Tebow who put up great fantasy numbers going for 300 yards in the air and 27 on the ground with 2 total TDs. Tebow will be a poor man’s Michael Vick this week, especially if Knowshon Moreno can’t go.
Mike Thomas – Thomas has been inconsistent at best all season, but he will be facing the Houston Texans and that is fantasy gold. David Garrard may not play, but regardless of who is throwing the ball it should remain a good match up.
Good luck this week guys.
