The dust has settled at the Saddledome. Jay Feaster has control of the helm of the sinking ship called the Calgary Flames. The question is what now?
Ken King and the Flames ownership group have asked for a plan moving forward from Mr. Feaster. One has to wonder what that plan will entail but I can assure you that no one is safe in Calgary. If you have a No Trade Clause there is a chance you will be asked to waive it. However even with that said don’t expect a mass overhaul of the team as Feaster has said he does like the core of this team.
Liking the core and having to make tough decisions moving forward are two different things and I suspect everyone will be discussed moving forward and that includes Jarome Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff. Both of whom could fetch a very large return at the trade deadline. If you can get a Jarome Iginla at the trade deadline would you try and do it if you feel you care close? #12 would be an interesting sight to see in Pittsburgh or even Los Angeles perhaps. What about the Washington Capitals? Don’t you think the allure of a Kiprusoff in their nets come playoff time would be enticing? Robyn Regher and Cory Sarich could certainly help a team in need of help on the back end going on a run.
Speaking of decisions internally don’t think for a second that Brent Sutter is safe. Yes Jay Feaster likes Brent Sutter and I also think he is a good coach. If the Flames are out of the running there is no guarantee that Feaster wouldn’t want to bring in ‘his own guy’ to coach the team.
The rumors will be swirling around this team for the next couple of months, as I can assure you that no option is off the table anymore.
Have a good one!
