4th and 20 for this years Cowboy squad…

I think the heading says it all as the Dallas Cowboys head to Philadelphia to end this disappointing season. It seems from the start of the season the Cowboys have been looking at 4th and long all season. I, like a lot of you had high expectations for the Dallas Cowboys this year but we all know the lockers will be clean come next week and the good-byes will happen.
The Cowboys will once again be playing for ‘PRIDE’ this Sunday against the Eagles. Another one of the biggest rivalries in professional sports and the 2nd time these two teams have played in the last month. Although the game means next to nothing for the Cowboys, how they play will show a major factor in how interim Coach Jason Garrett prepares his squad. If the Cowboys show up, play well and maybe even win the game it will show that Garrett prepared them well and they played for him and that could be huge in Garrett favour to vie for the head Coaching job next season. Sit down, do nothing, lose the game big and it could show that Garrett could not prepare the Cowboys which will not bode well for his chances at Coaching the Cowboys next season.
Advantages for the Cowboys on Sunday is they have had the extra days by playing in the loss to the Cardinals on Saturday night and the Eagles having to play on Tuesday night so that could bode well for a more rested Cowboy squad. I will say outside of injured players needing the few extra days I am not sure even in professional football that the extra days really mean a lot to the healthy players. These guys are so well toned/trained that after a couple days to re-coop they could probably go right back to battle.
Philly could sit a lot of their starters with Michael Vick hurting somewhat but one thing being said is clearly the Eagles do not want to go into the post-season with two straight loses. Last noted was Vick would go with whatever decision his Head Coach made as to who is going to start ay quarterback for the Eagles.
Look for the Cowboys to start rookie quarterback Stephen McGee who showed some poise in last weeks tilt against the Cardinals. It has been said that if Jon Kitna is healthy enough to start at QB than he will but Kitna is said to have some pain “knife” when he throws the ball. It could be a good test for McGee to come into a chilly Philly, start the game and see how he can manage the Cowboys offense.
The Cowboys defense whom all season has been very sub-par giving up points, not getting the turn-overs, sacks and pressure they have been used to could be in for a long game if they do not do any of the above and force whomever is QBing the Eagles to rush their plays, fill the gaps and hold onto coverage down-field. The Eagles have weapons that have played havoc on the Cowboys in the past and no reason why they would want to stop that this Sunday.
Offense / defense / special teams, it is the last game of the season for this years Dallas Cowboys, lets hope they show up, play hard and play with Cowboy pride and walk away with their heads up high. We will access the team, what went wrong, who is coming back, who may not come back and where the Cowboys have to look to put a better team on the field next season.
Happy New Year, be safe and hopefully come back often….
