Tigers Complete Perfect December

With Missouri coming off their most impressive performance of the season on Monday night against Northern Illinois, they fell into a vulnerable position with strong mid-major opponent Old Dominion coming into town.
However, the Monarchs (9-3) were unable to end the Tigers (13-1) 55 game non-conference win streak in their own castle with an 81-58 victory. The Tigers were lead once again by junior guard Marcus Denmon, who scored 22 points after a 24 point outing three nights ago. Denmon, who came into the contest shooting 49% from beyond the arc, cashed in on five three-pointers.
The other Tiger guards followed Denmon with double figures. Off the bench, Michael Dixon scored 18 points and made all three of his three-point attempts. Starting guards Matt Pressey and Kim English added 15 and 11 points respectively. After two strong games for Pressey, he is showing head coach Mike Anderson that he will not give up his starting role easily.
The Tigers frontcourt struggled to produce as the combination of Ricardo Ratliffe, Laurence Bowers, Justin Safford and Steve Moore only combined for 15 points. Ratliffe lead the big men in scoring with 10 points, but only grabbed four rebounds. Bowers had a forgetful night with only four points in 17 minutes, and an early seat on the bench due to five personal fouls.
The Monarchs were lead by Frank Hassell with 12 points and Marquel De Lancey contributed off the bench with 10. On Monday night the Tigers shut down Northern Illinois’ leading scorer Xavier Silas. On this night they locked down Old Dominion’s top scorer Kent Bazemore. The junior guard, who is averaging just over 13 points per game, scored four points in 29 minutes. With the Tigers successfully stopping several top scorers, it shows that they have the ability to contain Big 12 superstars Jacob Pullen (Kansas State) and LaceDarius Dunn (Baylor).
The win for the Tigers gives them a perfect 8-0 record in December. They start 2011 with their final non-conference game against North Alabama on January 5. The Tigers hope January will be as kind to them as December, with games against currently ranked teams Texas A&M, Kansas State and Texas in the first month of the year.
