Daniels Comes Up Big To Close Out 2010

Sophomore quarterback B.J. Daniels ( 20/27 189 yards, 2 TD) threw two touchdown passes and ran for another touchdown as the Bulls pulled off the upset yesterday in Charlotte, N.C. Daniels was starting for the first time in thirty four days ( he got hurt at Miami on Thanksgiving weekend ) and earned the MVP honors in yesterday’s 31-26 win over Clemson in the Meineke Car Care Bowl played at Bank Of America Stadium in front of mostly Clemson followers. This bowl win was the Bulls most impressive win to date, they beat a team from a BCS Conference. The three previous bowl wins in school history were against non-BCS teams. The 31 points put up by the Bulls were the most allowed by Clemson all season, remember Clemson played at Auburn back in September.
Daniels got off to a slow start, he missed his first three passes, including an interception that would set up a Clemson field goal. The only lead Clemson would have all afternoon. At one point in the game, Daniels completed 14 consecutive passes, which was a season high. South Florida took control of this game and opened up the second-half with a 13 play, 83 yard drive and even converted on three third downs. It was capped off by six year senior Mo Plancher playing in his final Bulls game. On the day, Plancher ran for 50 yards on 14 carries.
On the other side of the ball, the Bulls “D” knocked out Clemson’s starting quarterback Kyle Parker who left at halftime with broken ribs. Clemson’s backup quarterback Tajh Boyd struggled most of the game until the end where he threw two touchdown passes but that wouldn’t be enough because this day belonged to the South Florida Bulls! The Bulls have lots of momentum going into the 2011 season and should be one of the favorites to win the Big East.
