Cowboys Close Out the Season With a Win

In an all but meaningless game for the season the Cowboys pulled out a late victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on a short pass to Jason Witten with 55 seconds left in the game. Third string quarter back Steven McGee led the final drive in his attempt to show that he can be a solid back up in Dallas for the coming seasons. McGee showed a good deal of mobility, running for 55 yards, and though he didn’t have a ton of completions (11 for 24) he didn’t turn the ball over which is paramount. If Jon Kitna doesn’t return this next season, the coaches will have something to look at if they decide to draft or sign another back up QB.
Dallas’ veterans on defense were able to take advantage of the Eagles back ups with DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer combining for 5 sacks and Terence Newman picking off Kevin Kolb twice. All in all Dallas did what was the most important thing to do this season and that’s finish on a positive note. To lay down for this game in an attempt to get a better draft pick would have hovered over them in the off season and into next season. Leaving a very negative feeling on the team. Besides, if it’s a higher draft pick they want, trading up should be easy as it’s become very trendy in the NFL to trade up and down the draft board on draft day.
This may very well have also been the last season that Marion Barber plays in a Cowboys uniform as rumors are circulating that the overpaid back will be cut loose or traded from the team, though it may be tough to move him with his salary and after a couple of unproductive seasons. Dallas will have a lot of decisions, particularly Jerry Jones and his staff, in a draft that seems to have an increased aura of importance. The underachievement of this team, which has been consistently talented, over the past few seasons has become egregiously evident and has to be addressed through either the draft or free agency.
Though the season has been bumpy, to say the least, Dallas has come out with some positive signs in the form of Dez Bryant, Sean Lee, and even Roy Williams looking better. As well as some question marks like Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins, Alan Ball, and a shaky O-line. Though there will be no post season for Dallas fans, the team is facing an interesting looking off season.
