Waiting patiently for the phone to ring while tending to business down on the farm, Oilers’ veteran Liam Reddox has quietly accumulated an impressive 33-point season and a plus-14 rating to lead the Oklahoma City Barons, Edmonton’s AHL team.
Reddox and OK City teammate Linus Omark received “the call” from Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini last night, and are on their way to the Alberta capital to face off against the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday evening at Rexall Place.
The call-up falls on the heels of an ankle injury to Oilers rookie winger Jordan Eberle, who is awaiting an MRI to determine the severity of his injury. Eberle fell awkwardly during a 2-1 loss to Calgary Saturday evening, after a hit by Flames’ forward Ales Kotalik.
This is Omark’s second call-up, having played eight games earlier this season when Ales Hemsky was placed on the IR with a groin injury. His stay with the copper and blue was marked by a memorable “show boat” SO winner against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Despite having an acceptable training camp, Reddox fell victim to a numbers game brought on by an Oilers’ front office anxious to provide ice time to some of its highly touted prospects.
In the meantime Oiler fans, chins up…sticks down.
