Before conference play begins, the Tigers knew it would be vital to get Kim English going. The junior guard has struggled this season when you consider the high expectations that were put on him.
Tonight, English scored a season high 20 points, all in the first half, to lead the Tigers to a 98-58 win over Division II Northern Alabama. English scored 18 of his points from behind the three-point line. It was important for English to find some range in his shot, as at times he as been ice cold from this area.
Six other Tigers reached double digit scoring. The frontcourt duo of Laurence Bowers and Justin Safford each scored 16 points. Bowers also pulled down 11 rebounds.
Fresh of Big 12 conference weekly awards Marcus Denmon and Matt Pressey contributed with double figure scoring. Denmon, who won player of the week, scored 12 points. Matt Pressey, who won rookie of the week, added 10.
Guards Michael Dixon and Rickey Kreklow each netted 10 off the bench. Kreklow also had 10 rebounds in 20 minutes of play. It was the first career double-double for the freshmen from hometown Columbia.
The 14-1 Tigers bring in their top 10 ranking to conference play when they travel to Colorado on Saturday afternoon. The Buffaloes have gotten off to a hot start this season with 11-4 record.
