The New York Islanders have reached an agreement with D Milan Jurcina on a contract extension of 1 year, valued at $1.6M.
Jurcina, 27, has appeared in 19 games this season for the Isles after missing significant time with a groin injury. He has 4 pts and 12 PIM this season.
Isles GM Garth Snow said the team wanted to extend Jurcina’s contract prior to the trade deadline. “He’s a big body, well-liked by his teammates and a calming presence to our blue line,” Snow said. “To me our troubles started when [Andrew MacDonald] and Jurcina went down.”
Jurcina is the only Islanders defenseman to have a positive plus/minus this season, at +1.
