Celtics Torch Raptors 122-102

The Toronto Raptors were in Boston this evening trying to avenge a 93-79 loss they suffered just a week ago. Already being the fourth and final contest of this season’s series, the C’s hold a 2-1 edge. Their loss, 1 of only 7 on the season, came in Toronto. Andrea Bargnani scored a game high 29 points, playing an integral part in the victory. In their last meeting Bargnani was absent from the lineup, leading to the favorable forecast for the Celtics. Ostensibly, this was the rubber match. Without KG in the lineup, however, Andrea held the potential to give the Boston big’s a fit.

This game started as one of individual runs. Boston started with an early run of 14-4 . Toronto countered with a 9-2 run of their own. And Boston reclaimed supremacy by one upping the Raptors, going on the 3rd and final major run at 10-2 . Just seconds later Mike Gorman quoted the wise Bill Russell, as he remarked of runs, “you want the first, last, and the longest” The Celtics did just that, eventually taking this contest 122-102. It was already over after time expired in the first quarter, and the C’s had a commanding 34-22 lead. They were led by 9 points from Ray Allen, 7 from Paul Pierce, and 8 from…Luke Harangody?

Yes, that’s right. Luke Harangody was the unlikely hero of this evenings game. Perhaps even officially taking the status as the new Scalabrine. Luke ended the night with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks on 8-11 shooting. Due to the route that was taking place at the half, as Boston already enjoyed a comfortable lead of 22 points, many of the starters were able to get ample rest. This is certainly all the more important knowing that the team is amidst a stretch of 5 games in 8 days. The only starter to log more than 30 minutes of play was Big Baby at 33. Being a bench player regularly, Baby more than likely relished the opportunity to play extended time anyways.

Six Celtics logged double digits in scoring, with Pierce at 20, Allen at 17, Harangody at 17, Robinson at 15, Baby at 14, and Shaq at 12. Leading the league in FG %, the C’s continued to torch the nets, posting a 57.5 FG% tonight. Also a league leader is assists, they posted 31 at night’s end, with only 7 coming from the prolific Rajon Rondo. The C’s get right back to action tomorrow, facing a Chicago Bulls team who has lost 2 straight to teams the Celtics are all too familiar with, the struggling New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers.
