Ex-Hawkeye linebacker Pat Angerer and current rookie for the Indianapolis Colts has been named to the 2010 National Football Post’s Defensive All-Rookie Player list.

Angerer was a second-round draft choice. In his rookie season with the Colts, the linebacker has shown get great instincts and quickness [1]. He broke into the starting lineup in Week Six and by season’s end, ranked second on the team with 75 tackles. Angerer led special teams with 16 tackles; he also had one sack and one forced fumble in 2010.

And today, the Bettendorf, IA native will play in his first postseason game when the Colts play the New York Jets.

In response to today’s game, Angerer commented [2], “I think everything is going to be faster. I think the key is not to go out there and think you have to do anything extraordinary. Like I said before, just do your job and play hard.” He also noted that he’s spent a lot of time this season listening to the team’s veterans, which he added should help for today’s game.

Angerer joins other former Hawkeye players on the Colts including tight end Dallas Clark and safety Bob Sanders, who are both on injured reserve. The Colts head coach, Jim Caldwell, played for Iowa and lettered from 1973-1976; he is the only former Hawkeye who currently holds a NFL head coaching position.

And just to stretch it further, former Hawkeye Tom Moore, is the Colt’s team’s senior offensive assistant.

This should be an interesting game as Angerer will lineup against former Hawkeye and current Jets running back, Shonn Greene [3].
