Parity No Rarity

If the Blues were to have won their game against the New York Rangers last night, they would be in fifth place in the Western Conference. Instead, they sit in 12th. 12th place is only one point behind the 8th and final playoff spot. The parity in the Western Conference is unbelievable this year. As Jim Morrison used to say; the West is the best. It couldn’t be truer. Yes, there are some great teams in the east right now, but besides the Oilers, there are no Islanders, Panthers, Devils, Maple Leafs, or Senators in the West. This is no insult to my friends in Florida, Ontario, or crosstown from me here in Brooklyn, but city council members in Miami, Ottawa, Toronto, Hempstead, & Newark don’t need to worry about rioting fans or planning a parade route after a Stanley Cup victory this spring. This has been the case the past two seasons. Only six points separate nine spots in the West between fourth and twelfth place. Any team can win on any given night, as seen as Toronto and the New York Rangers have picked up wins against the Blues in the past two games. Yes, Martin Biron was unbelievable last night and yes Toronto’s forwards came out of their shell the other night, but realistically the Blues should be three points ahead of where they sit right now and gnawing at Nashville for the fourth seed.
