You won’t find a more talented and well respected golfer on the planet right now than Dustin Johnson. Dustin endeared himself to golf fans everywhere by handling last years US Open disappointment at Pebble Beach and then the bunker debacle at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits with class. Some golfers never recover from let alone one major disappointment but Dustin took both of his in stride and used those experiences to motivate himself to improve his game and then capture the BMW Championship in the 2010 FedEx Cup playoffs.
Dustin also began working with Butch Harmon in the ladder part of 2010. Harmon is best known for coaching Tiger Woods (1993-2004) and is the current coach for several top tour players, which includes Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Adam Scott, and Nick Watney. Dustin is well known on tour for his BOOMING drives, steady putter and relaxed demeanor on the golf course. However, Butch is now working with Dustin to improve his short game, notably his wedge play within 150 yards of the hole. With that said, once Dustin improves this area of his game…watch out!
We all know that the “numbers never lie”, so at the young age of 26 Dustin already has 4 wins on the PGA Tour, most noted by his dominance at Pebble Beach. Dustin won the 2009 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am but many scoffed at his accomplishment because it was a rain shortened 54 hole tournament. Dustin then went out and backed it up last year by winning the 2010 event, this time concluding a full 72 hole tournament. Dustin then lead comfortably after 54 holes at the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach before coming unglued to start the final round and finished tied for 8th. So what should we expect out of DJ for 2011?
Performance Outlook: Dustin is a rhythm player so look for him to build some momentum in tournaments before he steps into the winners circle again. Dustin has home court advantage at Pebble Beach and until someone decides to dethrone him, Dustin will continue to dominate this event. Look for him to secure a three-peat at the 2011 AT&T National Pro Am at Pebble Beach, 4 wins through out the 2011 season, at least 1 major championship, a birth on the 2011 Fred Couples Presidents Cup team and a top 5 World Golf Ranking by years end.
