Bobcats Led By DJ Augustin Keep Winning Streak Alive

A pre-game pep talk from the owner, a slow star by the opposing team, and a career-best performance by their point guard leads the Charlotte Bobcats to their four straight win.

For Charlotte, last night’s 96-91 win over the Chicago Bulls improved the team’s record to 11-9 at home and was the Bobcat’s sixth win in their last eight games. The team is now 6-2 under their interim head coach Paul Silas.

D.J. Augustin led the way for the Bobcats, finishing with a team-high 22 points, and a game-high 12 assists. The 12 assists was a career-best for Augustin, but it was not just his effort on the offensive end that helped Charlotte extend their best winning streak of the season.

He was able to hold his counter-part, Bulls’ point guard Derek Rose, to just 17 points on 5-of-17 shooting from the field. Rose also committed four of Chicago’s 12 turnovers.

Augustin also made a concerted effort to take care of the ball after committing five turnovers against the Memphis Grizzlies. Something that team owner Michael Jordan addressed with the team’s young point guard about before the game against Chicago. He only had one turnover in the game and Charlotte just had seven turnovers as a team.

Since former head coach Larry Brown stepped aside in December, the Bobcats have looked like a complete different team under Silas. The Bobcats have been more aggressive on offense and defense. That style of play was apparent last night with Charlotte jumping out to a 36-22 lead after the end of the first quarter.

At 15-21 overall, the Bobcats are 13 games behind the Miami Heat in the Southeast and have a one-game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Charlotte’s next five games will be a good test to see just how for real Charlotte is under Silas. They play at Boston against the Celtics on Friday and return home to play the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday. The Bobcats follow that up at the 76ers Monday, at the Bulls Tuesday, and return home to play Philadelphia again on Thursday.
