For New York Islanders fans, don’t start thinking about another long losing streak. Well, at least not yet.
Ottawa handed New York its third consecutive loss Thursday evening, posting a 6-4 win in Uniondale.
Robin Lehner scored a victory in goal in his first NHL start Thursday by making 20 saves as the Senators stopped a six-game skid with the victory.
Ottawa, which has had its own struggles this year, held a 6-2 lead through two periods before the Islanders cut the deficit.
After a five-game road trip that included wins over Detroit and Colorado, the Islanders have now dropped three in a row.
Kevin Poulin opened in goal for New York, but was yanked after allowing a pair of scores on eight shots. Nathan Lawson allowed four goals in the second period before Poulin came back for the third.
Trevor Gillies, P.A. Parenteau, Milan Jurcina and Blake Comeau tallied goals for New York, which next hosts Buffalo on Saturday at 7 p.m.
